Roundnet Season Break

Just like the rest of you, I've been lounging around watching roundnet highlight videos and hitting serves against my bedroom wall.

So, I was thinking it would be cool to write an article to show others what some roundnet players around the nation, and world, are doing during this downtime!

Read more about Gabriela below!

Some of Gabriela's Best Roundnet Tournament Finishes:

  • 3rd place in the mixed division at 2019 European Roundnet Championships
  • Rated 2nd best women's roundnet player in Europe according to 2019 end of season rankings
Gabriela is also one of the founders of Czech Republic Roundnet, one of the first and largest roundnet communities in Europe!

Gabi is also a doctor, and she has been working shifts of over 24 hours sometimes during the recent world events. Thank you, Gabi!!!

What Are You Doing During the Roundnet Season Break?

Roundnet Training:

Gabi thinks it is important during this sport downtime, and while returning to sport, conditioning training to support strength and explosiveness, and other movements specific to roundnet.

She also says she suggest practicing technique of different hits, serves, and things you can improve on your own.

Non Roundnet Related:

Gabi likes performing yoga routines and other body weight exercises, which she finds helpful to relieve her muscle and joints pain.

Gabi also embraces the importance of mental health, and tries to keep her mind clear, clean and fresh. That is so necessary on the roundnet pitch, and when working 24 hour shifts in a hospital!

Nutrition,Hydration, Cooking, Recovery Techniques, Sleep, etc.

Nutrition:

I’m doing my best to eat well to protect myself from any diseases.

Anytime I feel something is going wrong with my body, I drink vitamin boosters such as fresh juices or ginger plus, plus vitamin C (there is never enough vitamin C).

Sleep:

I was always taught to try and get enough sleep.

To be honest, it’s probably one of the most important things when trying to be healthy.

Plus I need to be 100% concentrated at work and if I don’t sleep enough, the concentration is simply the worst.

Also I feel my body is not as relaxed as it should be, my mood is worse and my immune system more vulnerable. Plus my mom always taught me sleep makes me pretty. :)))

What Are You Doing For Yourself During Downtime From Roundnet Gatherings?

Usually I´m out of home most of the days, so it was a bit different for me during the quarantine to not gather with friends and hangout with them.

Apart from work I was mostly at home enjoying my time with my partner Jakub, doing all those things I never had enough time to do, trying to keeping my head clean and really relaxing a lot.

It feels the past few years, everything sped up so much - everyone is hurrying up, always in the middle of doing something.

And staying home, doing “nothing", is something most of us need to learn.

To be honest, I really enjoyed that during quarantine.

Advice for Others During This 'Free-Time' to Help Improve at Roundnet?

Maybe, try to relax yourself, give your body some rest.

If you have some gaps in your physical condition - you have the best time to improve it, do home exercises and workouts.

If you feel there are some gaps in your roundnet performance - improve it!

If it´s about your play - use your camera, record your hits and analyze it, ask friends what you can do better.

If you want to improve yourself in the game strategy, watch the games of the best players and analyze their moves.

What Are You Missing Most Not Going To Tournaments/Pickup/Practice?

I miss all my friends so badly.

It’s just tons of fun, it really keeps me happy.

Plus I always forget about all my concerns and worries and it’s just... magical.

International Ambassadors of Roundnet

Gabriela and her partner Jakub traveled over to San Fransisco for the Spikeball Roundnet Tour Stop in 2018.

I had the pleasure of meeting both of them and spending a few days in with them and a few others in San Francisco.
Great ballers and better people!
